    Raw material

The first step in creating a mold is selecting the appropriate raw material based on the tooling requirements.

    Extra material removal

After we have the appropriate raw material, we use a CNC machine to remove extra material to help form the initial shape of the tooling component.

    Heat treatment

Heat treatment is applied to improve mechanical properties such as hardness, wear resistance, and toughness.

    CNC machining finishing

After the mold undergoes heat treatment, we perform final precision machining using a CNC machine. This ensures smooth surfaces, minimizes wear and achieves exact dimensions and surface finishes.

    Wire cut

Depending on the material and required precision, we use wire EDM, laser cutting, or bandsaws to maintain proper cooling and cutting parameters to prevent thermal distortion or surface defects.

    CMM measurement

We use a CMM machine to verify the tooling is within the required specifications to achieve dimensional accuracy.

    Validation

Finally, we check issues such as misalignment, dimensional deviations, surface defects, or improper material flow. Once verified, we assemble and perform test runs using sample materials to ensure the mold's accuracy and functionality.

    Why is tooling manufacturing important?

Tooling is vital in product manufacturing as it ensures precision, efficiency, and consistency. It minimizes waste and rework, allows for quick design changes, and enhances product quality and safety. VPIC Group controls cost, quality, and time development by designing and manufacturing it in-house, which ultimately translates into savings for our customers.
